Scar formation is a natural part of the healing process that occurs when the skin repairs wounds caused by accident, surgery or disease. The time skin takes to heal will vary depending on the degree of damage, and the longer it takes to heal, the greater the chance of a scar.

It is important to know that scarring is considered to be the final stage of wound healing and all partial thickness and full thickness wounds will form scars, but not all of the scars will become abnormal scars. Normal scars will develop during the first 48 hours after wound closure and can fade within 3 months, whereas abnormal scars can occur up to 18 months later. Scars resulting from surgical incisions can become abnormal regardless of the skill of the surgeon.

system and the topical scar treatment, BioCorneum.

What is BioCorneum?
BioCorneum is a patented, transparent, self-drying silicone gel
that improves the appearance of scars and prevents abnormal
or excessive scar formation. BioCorneum softens and flattens
raised scars, reduces redness and relieves itching and discomfort
associated with scars.

What is the OMNILUX?
OMNILUX is a medical device that utilizes light emitting diode
(LED) technology. Using visible red LEDs and invisible infrared
LEDs, OMNILUX works with the body’s own natural processes to
counteract the effect of scarring.

How does the OMNILUX work for scars?
As we grow older, the cells that manufacture the
skin’s supportive structures begin to slow down.
Environmental damage from the sun’s rays speed up
this process and produce free radicals that damage
the skin and the cells that produce collagen and
elastin. OMNILUX combination light therapy targets
specific cells which are responsible for the synthesis
and repair of the skin’s supportive structures, leading

How soon after surgery can I begin?
2 weeks after surgery is recommended for optimal
